Week 6 Picks
It's funny how a few bad weeks in the BCFFL can affect my desire to keep up on the blog. Don't get me wrong, I love putting my thoughts in writing and giving ya'll a piece of my mind. However, as of a week ago, I felt as if I was jinxing myself. So I decided to take a week off to see if that's the case. Well let me tell you that it's not. My team just flat out sucks. So let's try to get back to the way things used to be.
A wise man (OB) once said it was near impossible to make a trade in the BCFFL. At first, I adamantly disagreed. After my 1-4 start, I decided to test the trade waters. I came to 3 conclusions as to why there are minimal trades in the BCFFL:
1) Fantasy Football in general is difficult to finalize a trade. You can never predict statistics as you can in MLB and NBA leagues. For instance, you know what you are going to get from a Power Forward in Germ's League. You also know that Starting Pitchers will rack up Innings Pitched, etc. In the BCFFL, you can only hope that you get production each week. You only have 1 chance to set your lineup.
2) The Brothers Effect. I'm not sure how much the Harringtons communicate, but since the Pollaro and Tedino brothers share a residence, you can bet there is constant Fantasy Football chatter. If one brother is in trade talks, they have another mind to bounce the idea off of. It could turn into another one of these incidents:

We don't want that. But to an extent, I believe my trade talks with Nick were halted because of Grande Bambino, my division rival. I could be wrong, but if Dean offered Mike a trade where I thought both teams were upgrading, I would try to counter Mike with an enticing offer of my own. See where I'm going?
3) Pride. Face it, we are all still in love with our sleeper draft picks. Well guys it's now Week 6 and if your boy hasn't started producing, it's probably time to sit his ass on the bench. Granted there is still ample time to make moves in either division, keep in mind only 6 teams make the playoffs this year.
There are going to be a few minor changes to the BCFFL Blog. The Blog has opened up its doors to other owners in the league. I challenge all of you guys who think it's easy to choose winners in the BCFFL. This week, I am going against Kenny. If you are interested in predicting the 5 games each week, email me your picks, and I will post them. You can choose a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 5. We can keep a score from here on out. The picks must be submitted by 5pm on Saturday.
The same will be for NFL Games. If you are not hired by The Pick Slip or The Weekly, both great publications by the way, I challenge you to make some NFL picks. Again, the minimum is 3 games, maximum is 5. We can keep a record for this too.
If we get serious about this, maybe we can start laying some money down on each other. Kind of like this guy.

Well, maybe not. But it would be pretty cool. Again email me by Saturday at 5pm.
Also, Mike will occasionally be filling in as the BCFFL Beat Writer. If you have the balls to write recaps, you could also help me out. Even if you just want to pick 1 or 2 games, including or not including your own. Here is Mike's debut:
*Mike's Week 5 Recap*
BBI 133 – Lattimer’s Needles 123
In arguably the most exciting game of the season, a determined BBI team behind the clutch catches of Bernard Berrian pulled out an upset against the steroid needles that Steve Lattimer uses from the movie, “The Program”. Jason Witten and Larry Fitzgerald continue to impress, while Mike was led by rookie Matt Forte and the best WR in fantasy, Greg Jennings. Midway through the 4th, with Mike up a point and 2/3rds thanks to kicker Ryan Longwell, journey-man Gus Frerotte found Bernard Berrian for a 40 yard gain. On 3rd down from the Saints 30, Frerotte dialed up Berrian one last time to put the dagger into the game, negating a chance for Ryan Longwell to possibly hit a 50 yarder to perhaps seal a victory for Mike. Dean continues to show he can win without Tom Brady, but how many times can you play that card on us? “Imagine my team with Brady.” Yea, yea, we get it…Brady would put your squad in the Hall-of-Fame next to the 72 Dolphins.
11th Street Bullies 136 - The Italian Birds 119
One of these teams had to end their losing streak this week. The Bullies shot down the Birds in what was a close game going into Sunday Night, until Ben “I’m tough and won’t ride a helmet on my motorcycle” Roethlisburger threw 3 TDs passes to claim victory for Boone. Also chipping in for the victory was Andre Johnson, Steve Slaton, and Ronnie Brown, combining for 71 points. Peyton Manning decided to wake up this week in leading his NFL team to a come-from-behind victory, but not for Tim’s fantasy team. Brandon Jacobs provided some support with 27 points, but the rest of Tim’s lineup took a personal week off, kinda like Plaxico. Tim Hightower had a nice showing on the bench; perhaps he is ready for the spotlight on the Birds’ squad…
Kenny 139 – Miami Sharks 111
Undefeated MJ had his hands full trying to stay perfect. He got what he needed from Reggie Bush and Housh, but Peterson and McNabb could not make up the ground that Ken’s team made. A balanced attack led by Roddy White and Issac Bruce, combined with Tony Romo’s 4th quarter, 57 yard TD throw and run to TO really made it hard for MJ to counter. As mentioned before, Reggie provided the points MJ needed, but the rest of the squad could not overcome the deficit. Hines Ward’s 22 points on the bench would have helped the cause, but either way Kenny and MJ stand alone on top of their respective divisions with a 4-1 record each.
OB 126 - Harrch 79
OB’s 4 WR attack was too much for a Harrch squad led by the unstoppable Chad Pennington. Behind Lee Evans, Randy Moss and Reggie Wayne, OB had 65 points to Harrch’s 79. Throw in Felix Jones and OB basically beat Harrch with four guys, but that’s the price you pay for having the entire Jets offense (although it paid off handsomely last week). Harrch was led by Roy Williams with 16 points, but perhaps the biggest mystery was why Santana Moss didn’t get a single reception the entire game. Very interesting game-planning by the Skins, because they still found a way to win without Santana getting involved. And by the way, when I meant unstoppable Chad Pennington, there was no sarcasm intended for that…the Dolphins actually look legit with Chad throwing his 50 yard rockets downfield (sarcasm there).
Germo 124 - The Posse 105
There may not be an undefeated team left in the BCFFL, but rest assured there still is a squad looking for their first victory of the season, and it didn’t come on Sunday. Germo’s balanced victory was led by Muhsin Muhammed with support from the Bears D, Devin Hester, and Edgerrin James. The team that many thought didn’t have enough quality WRs proved the past two weeks that you can get by with guys like Mumu, Laveranues, and Ted Ginn. We’ll see how this squad holds up the next couple of weeks though before we give them a playoff berth. Nick’s squad continues to smell and look like the vag of Hilary Clinton; he could have used Stephen Jackson this week, a quality start from Campbell, or maybe a better running back to start besides TJ Duckett. Good news is Carson Palmer might finally be getting his shit together after a solid performance, but Chad Johnson is still looking like the bathroom Germo defaced at Andrew Brault’s house back in the day (if you weren’t there that night then I pretty much just made a shit joke).

Week 4
The BCFFL might be the only Fantasy Football League in the World in which Ronnie Brown was on the bench of a losing team in a game where his 43.96 points would not have mattered. The so-called match-up of the year was not close to living up to its expectations. The 11th Street Bullies were out classed by Lattimer's Needles.
How about the Miami Dolphins absolutely embarrassing New England at home? The last time the Patriots got their asses kicked like this was at the Battle of Bunker Hill.
I'm glad that TJ Housh and Chris Perry finally had their coming out parties. Unfortunately, it was at the expense of Giants' fans hearts everywhere. I can say one thing about the Bengals: Carson Palmer is NOT overrated. He is a hell of a NFL QB.
No excuses from Plaxico Burress. Rumors have it that he was out partying until the wee hours of Mondee morning. Don't get me wrong, I love the partying but come on man. With the bye week approaching, there is a TIME and a place to party. Harrch is now without his #1 WR for the next 2 weeks.
How good is the NFC East? They have a combined record of 10-2. With both losses coming within the division! (Washington (2-1) to NY (3-0) and Philly (2-1) to Dallas (3-0). When suggesting the shift in power from the AFC to NFC, fans need to look no farther than the powerhouse NFC East.
Week 3 Results:
* BBI 126.04 over The Italian Birds 102.74 *
The teams will flip flop in the Odds Standings, as well in the Power Rankings. Things would have been a lot different if Chris Perry and Baltimore D were starting in place of Pats D and a Flex. But that's fantasy football folks. No excuses. BBI had an average week according to BCFFL scoring standards, but that's what it takes to succeed sometimes. Good to see Larry "Grand Mamma" Johnson get his first TD of the year. Larry Fitz powered BBI's WR corps to an eventual victory.
* Definite 134.34 over Germ 95.18 *
A lot was riding on the SD/NYJ Monday Night Game. Things couldn't have worked out any better for Harrch, except a Jets victory. Favre and LdT's combined 50 points paced Team Definite. All LenDale White does is rush for TDs. Lavernues Coles' breakout week was for nothing as he was riding Germ's bench. Good week for Maurice Jones-Drew behind a banged up Offensive Line.
* Kenny 125.6 over OB 110.04 *
220 RuYd, 2 RuTD (66,5), 6 ReYd, Recpt 35.6
104 RuYd, 3 RuTD (4,1,2) 28.4
Deja vu? Michael Turner owns OB this year, amassing for for almost 65 points in the 2 games with 5 total TDs. OB can't seem to catch a break, even when he finally gets production from his RBs. OB's team is not built to win games when Moss and Wayne combine for just over 15 points. Good overall week for The Raining Champ, he left a ton of points on the bench en route to victory.
* Miami Sharks 154.56 over The Posse 118.42 *
MJ continues to punish his opponents, this time running over the latter part of DEANICK, the famous license plate of Rino Pollaro himself. Reggie Bush continues his dominance with another 30+ week. TJ Housh, welcome back buddy! And a welcome back party it was, scoring over 30 points on 12 receptions and a TD. I never saw this coming but Jason Campbell is turning into a decent Fantasy Option at QB. I still think we will see a lot of Carson Palmer this year.
* Lattimer's Needles 161.86 over 11th Street Bullies 48.14 *
Mike had 6 guys score at least 20 (19.5) points this week! Those 6 guys beat half the teams in the league. Frank Gore is living up to his top 10 RB hype with another huge week. Hard to choose a single star of the Needles, but I'd give the game ball to Brandon Marshall, again. He might be the best WR in the NFL right now. With Roethlisberger banged up, along with Colston and Westbrook, it might be a long 2-3 weeks for the Bullies. If he can keep his head above water, he should coast into the playoffs having two 0-3 teams in the Evens Division.
Week 4 Picks:
* The Posse (+15) over BBI * (The Battle of the Pollaros)
* OB vs. Tim OVER 235 *
* Boone (+50) over Miami Sharks *
* Cincinnati (-3.5) over Cleveland *
* Atlanta at Carolina OVER 39 *
* Jets (-1.5) over Arizona *
BCFFL Power Rankings:
1) Lattimer's Needles (3-0)
2) Miami Sharks (3-0)
3) Kenny (3-0)
4) 11th Street Bullies (2-1)
5) BBI (2-1)
6) The Italian Birds (1-2)
7) Harrch (1-2)
8) OB (0-3)
9) The Posse (0-3)
10) Germ (0-3)
Until next time,
Good luck to my loyal readers.

Week 3 Bumps and Bruises
Dear Jet Fans,
Welcome Back. We missed you.
Love always,
Reality
I am going to try my hardest not to bash Eric "Mangina" Mangini in this blog. However, his play calling in the Red Zone requires a short tantrum from The Commish. Let me get this straight, the Jets made all of this off-season hoopla for some Quarterback and when the game matters the most, let's hand the ball off and run right at the strength of the Patriots Defense: The D Line. It's almost like Eric Mangini has never played or even scouted the Pats D before. Why wouldn't you attack a depleted secondary? One that starts a man by the name of Deltha O'Neal, who was recently waived by the Bengals! Instead, let's run right at Vince Wilfork, Ty Warren and Richard Seymour not once, not twice, but three times in a row. I really thought the Jets were going to pull this one out, but I am still baffled as to why they didn't look towards Keller or Cotchery at least once during that crucial drive. Oh yeah, didn't the Jets make all the off-season headlines by acquiring Brett Favre? Would it hurt Mangini to put the ball in his hands when the game mattered the most?
(rant off)
Week 2 Results:
* The Italian Birds 120.44 over Germ 80.06 *
- For the 2nd week in a row, the Chicago Bears D was Germ's 2nd leading scorer. As I said in my previous blog, when that happens, chances are, you are going to lose week in and week out. What happened to all Germ's RBs? Tony Gonzo was his leading scorer. Seems like everybody else is taking advantage of the Point Per Reception except Germ. The season is young, but there is clearly some work to be done if Germ wants to make a playoff push. Calvin Johnson in the 3rd round is beginning to look like a steal.
* 11th Street Bullies 151.74 over Harrch 88.04 *
- Where have you gone LaDainian Tomlinson? The consensus #1 overall pick for the previous 4 years is finally showing signs of slowing down. Not only that, but he might miss the next few weeks. Props to Harrch for having D. Sproles. What else is there to say about Boone's team? Westbrook had a huge game against a 'great' Dallas D. Anquan Boldin was arguably the Player of the Week for a surprising 2-0 Kurt Warner led Arizona Team. Matt Jones and Vernon Davis in the starting lineup? No big deal for the 11th Street Bullies, who are certainly living up to their billing.
* Kenny 128.98 over The Posse 127.94 *
- Most overrated team in the League? Could very well be The Reigning Champ. Both of his wins came against 0-2 teams (Nicky and OB) by a little over a combined 1.5 points. Never again will I bet on Kenny giving points. Nicky put up a valiant effort and on Monday night we had all thought he chalked up his first W of the season. On the bright side for Kenny, the Cowboys look like they are going to have another huge offensive season once again. Barber III and Romo were his Prime Time Players this week, a trend we will likely see for the remainder of the year. Props to Nicky for starting Jason Campbell over Carson Palmer. The Posse played the matchups, and it resulted in a 17 point swing at his QB position. This is a great example of how Fantasy Football is NOT all luck.
* Lattimer's Needles 187.12 over OB 95.84 *
- It doesn't matter who Mike puts at QB, cause they will all put up 25+ points. Brandon Marshall was a one man wrecking crew this weekend, amassing 40.6 points and surpassing Boldin for POTW Honors. When your starting RBs and WRs put up 20+ each, you aren't going to lose many weeks. OB needs to fix his running game, or else his climb out of the 0-2 bunker is going to be extremely difficult. Reggie Wayne was once again OB's best player, but it wasn't enough to pull off the upset of colossal proportions.
* Miami Sharks 169.1 over BBI 115.2 *
- Got to give a ton of credit to BBI. In my opinion, he has overcome the lost of Brady and has enough talent on his depleted team to make an impact this year. How long will his rookies (Chris Johnson/DeSean Jackson) last? That might be the telling point for BBI's season. Looks like MJ did nothing at the Air Force Academy this year but study Fantasy Football. He appears to be on a mission to get his name engraved on the BCFFL Cup. Reggie Bush and Julius Jones were both head scratching draft picks, but both put up huge weeks in the victory. Starting Eli over McNabb was a bit under the radar, but it goes to show how much MJ is on top of his game.
The Commish Picks: Week 3
BCFFL: 0-3
NFL: 2-1
Season: 6-6
Editor's Note: The CBS Spreads are absolutely ridiculous. If you haven't already noticed.
* Tim (+14) over BBI *
- For the first time this year, The Commish is an underdog. We like that role this week. Simply put, Dean has better matchups than TT. Most glaringly: Cassel vs. Miami D and Peyton vs. Jacksonville D. The biggest difference is at the TE position. If Dallas Clark can make it back on the field, he should close the gap with Witten. Zach Miller is an emergency starter, and it hurts me to put him the starting lineup for the 2nd straight week. If the Colts can finally get on track, Tim should easily cover and has a legit chance to win outright. Ride that Eddie Royal Train!
* OB (+66) over Kenny *
- Cleary has yet to cover a spread this year. And this one might be the most laughable. Brees has a tough matchup vs. Denver and I think the loss of Colston is going to impact the NO Offense more than people think. Michael Turner should put up 25+ points against a terrible KC team. For the 2nd time in 3 weeks, OB is facing off against Cleary. Take OB with the points and never look back.
* 11th Street Bullies (+54) over Lattimer's Needles *
- An early inter-division rivalry game. This could very well be an Evens Division Championship Preview. Powerhouse vs. Powerhouse. This spread should be around 10 points, give or take. If it were, it would've been much harder to pick a winner. I think these are two of the most talented teams in the league, it should be an Old-Fashioned Western Shootout. Granted, the talent level is so high in this game, I wouldn't be in the least surprised if Mike won by 55 or even if Boone won by 60. This is easily the BCFFL Game of the Year so far.
* Denver (-5.5) over New Orleans *
* Tampa (+3) over Chicago *
* Pittsburgh (+3.5) over Philadelphia *
$$ Degenerates, take note that there is only 1 Home Dog this week: Packers vs. Cowboys in Dallas on Sunday Night. Bet carefully. $$
Week 3 BCFFL Power Rankings:
1) Mike (2-0)
2) MJ (2-0)
3) Boone (2-0)
4) TT (1-1)
5) Cleary (2-0)
6) BBI (1-1)
7) The Posse (0-2)
8) Harrch (0-2)
9) OB (0-2)
10) Germ (0-2)
Just a brief closing note, with OB winning the bid for Michael Pittman at $14, he becomes the 4th Denver RB to be on an active BCFFL Roster. Just some food for thought. Enjoy the beautiful weekend.
Oh yeah, that's definitely Brandon Jacobs in the picture below. He personally told me that he is going to put 150 and 2 TDs vs. the Bengals this weekend. Sorry Dean, but it's not like you didn't already know :)
Until next time,
TT
* The Italian Birds 120.44 over Germ 80.06 *
* 11th Street Bullies 151.74 over Harrch 88.04 *
* Kenny 128.98 over The Posse 127.94 *
