Week 1 Rumbles

Week 1 certainly started off with a bang. Isn't that right Laron Landry?

The Bergen County Fantasy Football League.

The only place where Germo and OB lost by a combined .82 points! That's right POINT EIGHT TWO. You got to respect the new BCFFL Fractional Scoring System for making an immediate impact. This is what Fantasy Football is all about.

Monday Night Football. A Week 1 Fantasy Victory on the line. No better place to determine a down to the wire matchup like the Black Hole.

Justin Fargas vs. Denver D
Selvin Young vs. Oakland D

Thanks to a late TD run by Young and late rushes and receptions from Fargas, the Reigning Champ and the Grande Bambino survive scares of epic proportions in first week.

As for OB and Germ?

Absolute Heartbreakers. Point Eight Two.

Week 1 Rumbles:

* How about the 2008 Rookie Class? Matt Ryan and Joe Flacco won their debuts. Chris Johnson, Felix Jones, Kevin Smith and Matt Forte all making immediate contributions to their team's running games. Eddie Royal and Desean Jackson should be arrested for assault the way they manhandled NFL defenses. We usually don't see this type of impact from Rookies until the later weeks of the year. Score one for the NFL Rookie Class of 2008.

* Don't drink the Eagles Kool-Aid. They put up monster numbers each year on Opening Weekend. Yeah Donovan looked great, but Jimbo could've thrown for 300 yards on the Rams D. Let's see what they have in store vs the Cowgirls next week.

* The NFC is better than the AFC. Panthers over Chargers. Bears over Colts. Both NFC teams were on the road. With Brady out, the balance of power shifted to the NFC. Oh yeah, the Super Bowl Champs play in the NFC.

* There are few teams in Professional Sports who are more of a disgrace than the Oakland Raiders. It's obvious the players don't want to play for Lane Kiffin. I knew the Raiders were going to get blown out from the Coin Toss. The fact that JaMarcus Russel (1 armed sleeve and all) is a Captain, disrespects the other 150 or so players who done the Captain's patch on a weekly basis. There couldn't be a less deserving candidate in the league. If you have a fantasy player on Oakland, I highly suggest dumping him. That is of course, unless you have Fargas on MNF and you are down a few points. Only then, is Fargas money. Right OB?

* A big congratulations to MJ for his graduation from the US Air Force Academy next week. We are all proud of you. Now, if you could only rename your team to "MJ's Fighter Jets" or something corny like that. Speaking of which, if we don't start renaming our teams, I am going to choose a team name for your team, and they will not be pretty. Get on that.

* Bergen Catholic High School c/o 2003 Reunion on Saturday night at The Social Bar in NYC. $40 Open Bar from 9-12. Be there.

* Commish went 4-2 with his picks last week. I was expecting a lot more out of the Texans on Sunday. They were dominated in all aspects of the game from start to finish. If they don't mature, and soon, they are going to be looking at another Top 10 pick. My other loss was Cleary (-3). I think he won closely on purpose to spite me. I need to investigate that.

Week 1 Injuries:

* I don't know if you heard, but that QB from New England got hurt. Should we really feel bad for a man who gets to spend every day for the next 6-8 months with her?

Yeah, poor Tom Brady.

I don't feel bad for:

1)Pats Fans. 95% of didn't even know football existed in New England until Mo Lewis introduced himself to Drew Bledsoe years back at the Old Foxboro.

2) Bill Belichick. He can really cement his place as the best coach of our generation if he can make it to the playoffs without his QB. Otherwise, he is just a cheater with a HOF QB.

3) Tom Brady. See above

I do feel for:

1) Brady Owners. You never like to see somebody's 1st round pick go down in the first few weeks of the year. It just gives them excuses as to why they lose. And if they beat you, they won't stop rubbing it in. "I beat you.....WITHOUT BRADY."

2) Matt Cassel. The dude hasn't started a football game since 1999! That's the same year Matt LoVecchio started his last game as a Crusader!

3) The Red Sox. Even more pressure to win the World Series this year. Not like there was any to begin with. Boston is a baseball town and with nobody watching the Pats anymore, Fenway is going to be a mad house in September and October.

"FUCK YOU BERNARD POLLARD!"

* Vince Young expected to miss 2-4 weeks. Something is brewing in Tennessee. Young, who almost retired in the off-season, apparently went AWOL on the team following Sundee's victory over the Jags. Young was booed throughout the game and eventually replaced by Kerry Collins, the boozehound himself, who finished off the game and is expected to start in Young's place for the duration of his injury. It could be worse for the Titans, they could've drafted Matt Leinart, who is better at holding Funnels than he is at holding onto the football.

* "Nasty" Nate Burleson was placed on IR after injuring his knee. If the Sonics weren't moving to Oklahoma City, I would recommend they try out Kevin Durant at WR. Who the hell is going to catch passes in Seattle? Matt Hasselbeck's stock continues to drop.

* Mike Nugent got hurt kicking an extra point. It's not as embarassing as Bill Gramatica getting hurt celebrating a 30 yard FG in a 21 point blowout, but Nugent almost cost the Jets the game. How can you not have a single guy on the team who can kick an extra point?

* Besides Brady, there were no real significant injuries in the BCFFL this week. Hopefully this trend lasts all year.

Week 1 Recaps:

Mike 144.38 over Tim 108.28

- Commish's bench almost outscored his starters. Starting Ricky Williams and Chris Perry really hurt TT this week. We are expecting decent numbers from those two, but we can't help but think they lost the week for me. Mike's Rookie RBs combined for 41 points this week, almost outscoring Nicky's starting lineup. With 3 viable QB options, Mike has the wiggle room to pull of a trade that upgrades his FLEX positions. The BCFFL Blog expects Mike to be in Division Title Contention for the remainder of the year. His team is that strong.

BBI 104.34 over Germ 104

- Wow. That's pretty much all you can say. Even without Brady, Dean managed to squeeze off a huge divisional victory. Like Mike, Dean was led by his rookie tandem of Chris Johnson and Desean Jackson, who thrived in their debuts. Even Willie Parker's big day couldn't propel Germ to a victory. Then again, when a Defense is the 2nd highest scorer on your team, you aren't going to win many games.

Kenny 135.6 over OB 135.12

- When your starting 2 RBs put up over 60 points, its going to be hard to lose. Especially with Romo at the helm, even if he had an 'off' week. The Reigning Champ has some WR issues, but that seems to be his only weakness. Moss, Wayne and Brees are going to be consistent contributors for OB this year, the problem is his flex. Felix Jones was a nice surprise this week, but he's a #2 RB, that doesn't scare opposing fantasy owners. OB is hoping that Larry Maroney can pick up the slack for the Patriots. But with Matt Cassel at QB, I think opposing D Coordinators are going to stack 8-9 in the box and let Cassel beat them. Be careful of what you wish for, Randy Moss is still on the team.

MJ 148.54 over Harrch 130.46

- The battle of Minoma lane went to the elder statesmen. To quote Mr. Pollaro: "m....J is better." Nothing against Harrch, who had an off week from LDT, but MJ might have the strongest team in the league. Plaxico Burress couldn't be blocked by Skins Defense, he is primed for a huge year.

I wouldn't be surprised if Kim Kardashian promised Reggie anal for every Saints win this year.

If I were Reggie, I'd put up 30 Fantasy Points every week if that meant coming home to this.

Boone 120.88 over Nicky 55.68

- Nicky's team could've doubled their production for the week, and they will wouldn't have beaten Big Bad Boone. Nicky basically has 2 teams to root for this year: Skins and Bengals. If they suck (like they did this week), Nicky is in for a long year. Steven Jackson looked pretty good against the Eagles, but he has no team surrounding him. No surprise here, Brian Westbrook leading Boone's team to victory. That could be the most used phrase on this blog.

REMINDERS:

- Waiver bids are due Wednesday at midnight. Technically Thursday, if you want to be a dick about it.
- Trades must be done by Tuesday night in order to be processed for Sunday's games.

I will have another Blog update with my week 2 predictions on Thursday (after Waivers).
